Flew 2 times and then went to ground where I was able to grab nolo VET NOTES Did not evaluate outside but per staff is flying. Anesthetized for one more round of radiographs and to check PCV/ TS, lead. Radiographs - pellet in body has moved a little more cranial. It does seem that this is free in the coelom and just shuffling around! VD and skyline of the wing shows some nice filling in and remodeling of the ulnar callous. The curved metallic opacity w/in the callous is still present. There is a somewhat protruberant area on the ventral aspect of the callous but all in all the fracture is well-aligned and smoothing out. Measured the pellet in the coelom - it is just under 1 cm long and about 4.6 mm wide. It has been suggested that this is an air gun pellet. Sometimes they have jackets that splinter off in small fragments, perhaps that is what is in the ulna. Alternately this could be from two separate shootings. They are often not lead. PCV much improved; lead level even lower. Bird is no longer emaciated. P: D/c antibiotics. Recheck next week to possibly start light exercise. Dr Gardner

NOLO so assume ate last night. Bandage change - pin-point defect in dorsal aspect of R wing over ulnar fracture. There is also a very small scabbed area ventrally. Cleaned, applied Silver gel, re-wrapped. I would keep wrapped until the wound is healed minimally. Palpated the right side and coelomic cavity thoroughly but didn't feel anything. I would have thought such a huge piece of ballistics would be readily palpable if not in the GI tract but I couldn't feel anything. Drew blood from L jugular vein (it was more robust) for PCV/ TS, CBC, and lead level. Lead = 7.5 - would suggest FB NOT in GIT. PCV/ TS = 21%/ 3.2 P: Add Clindamycin due to suspected osteomyelitis. Screening RAD every 2-3 days to see if bullet in coelom is moving. Got iron dextran incoming, recheck PCV in 1 week. Bandage change every 2-3 days. ME believes old ulnar fx. Wing gets perfect extension. Pulled scab from ventral aspect of callus that was a deep plug. Legs Left leg: NSF, full ext Right leg: NSF, full ext Ectoparasites: none seen RTHA first seen on 3/28 by neighbors attempting to fly multiple times but failing. Quiet and weak, but still alert. Palpated large lump on R wing, but joints have great extension. Consulted ME/BW and decided to treat for soft tissue wound on wing and emaciation until a determination of flight capabilities can be made. Flushed wound and scrubbed with chlorhex. Covered with DuoDerm patch and telfa/tega bandage. Applied padded fig 8, a bit tight, so cut a slit along wrap. Rads ASAP. Set up in KR2 kennel for now.
